A series of new pictures from the filming of the long-awaited sequel to the horror comedy Beetlejuice 2 reveal our first look at Wednesday’s star Jenna Ortega as the daughter of Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz. And it seems that another wedding is coming up. The pictures, which were published courtesy of PEOPLE, find Ortega in a pink and white wedding dress, suggesting that Michael Keaton’s Betelgeuse may be trying to reattach. Orgtega was seen filming Beetlejuice 2 alongside original star Winona Ryder, who will take on the role of Lydia Deetz in the follow-up. Ryder is back in the Gothic garb when she and Ortega filmed Beetlejuice 2 in Hertfordshire, England, reportedly the scene in question revolves around a wedding.
Rumors of a Beetlejuice sequel have been circulating for decades, with director Tim Burton initially wanting to bring Keaton’s ghoul back in 1990 with the ill-fated Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. After years of speculation, Beetlejuice 2 is now officially in the works at Warner Bros., with both director Tim Burton and star Michael Keaton set to return alongside Winona Ryder and new recruit Jenna Ortega.
While details of the plot are currently a mystery, it was announced that Ortega will take the lead in Beetlejuice 2, playing the daughter of Winona Ryder’s character from the original film. Catherine O’Hara will also return as Delia Deetz, with Justin Theroux, Willem Dafoe and Monica Bellucci joining as Betelgeuse’s wife in the sequel. Which raises a few questions about this wedding scene. Can Betelgeuse take several women? Or is it another ghoul who wants to marry Ortega’s character?

Released back in 1988, the first Beetlejuice was directed by Tim Burton and written by Michael McDowell, Larry Wilson and Warren Skaaren. Starring Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jones, Catherine O’Hara, Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton, this Gothic tale of ghosts and ghouls begins when the newly deceased married couple Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin star as Barbara and Michael Keaton, respectively. Adam Maitland makes contact with the devious “bio-exorcist” Beetlejuice and raises him from the underworld to scare away the new inhabitants of their old house — a house they are currently haunting.
Beetlejuice 2 has been in the works for some time and Michael Keaton is very happy to be back. “[Burton] and I talked about it years and years ago without telling anyone. I said that if it happens, we both said that we will do it many times. We both agreed that if it happens, it must be done as close as possible, as we did the first time, “the actor said last month. “Inventing stuff, making stuff happen, improvising and riffing, but literally handmade stuff like people creating things with their hands and building something. Damn good. I enjoyed working on a movie the most, I can’t tell you for how long.”
Beetlejuice 2: Why the audience is so enthusiastic
It was the year 1988, and Tim Burton had an ace up his sleeve. Burton had a story for eternity, an imaginative and entertaining story about the afterlife. It was the year when the audience fell head over heels in love with Adam, Barbara and the ghost with the most. Say his name three times, and it might be a choice that one regrets.
Looking back, Beetlejuice was a movie that shouldn’t have been as successful as it was. While it was a comedic treasure, its comedic tone tended to be ribald. As most would imagine, Beetlejuice was not an easy sale at first. According to The Independent, the original script was viewed with quite a bit of disdain and written off as “weird”.” Wilson, the producer who bought the script, remembers the conversation that went like this,
Fortunately, Wilson’s faith in the script he had in hand was somewhat stronger than the obvious dislike. It culminated in a success that paid off in significant dividends.
Beetlejuice performed excellently at the box office and more than made up for the amount of the investment. According to The Independent, it has earned 60 million more than was invested. And the film has earned its place as one of the highest-grossing films of the year.
It was so successful that it spawned an animated series and an adaptation on Broadway. It’s been years since fans joined the Deets with the “Day-Oh.” A few months ago, it was confirmed in an unprecedented way that fans would actually see Beetlejuice again in the upcoming sequel Beetlejuice 2. Although it is the most unexpected, it is highly anticipated, and here are some reasons why the audience is so excited.
